Monoethylene Glycol (MEG)

Monoethylene Glycol, commonly known as MEG, is a clear, colorless, nearly odorless, and somewhat viscous liquid. Chemically, it is classified as a diol or glycol, which is an organic compound containing two hydroxyl groups. MEG is a highly versatile chemical intermediate primarily used in the production of polyester fibers and polyethylene terephthalate (PET) resins, crucial for making plastic bottles and films. Beyond polymers, its low freezing point makes it an essential component in antifreeze and coolants for various automotive and industrial applications. It also finds use as a dehydrating agent in the natural gas industry and as a solvent in certain formulations. Despite its sweet taste, it is highly toxic and should never be ingested.
